Voices of Hope for Aphasia is saddened to learn of the passing of former board member and friend, Dr. Bill Heller. Dr. Heller served on the board of Voices of Hope for Aphasia from 2016 to 2018 but remained dedicated to the organization as an Emeritus Board Member. He was a dear friend and fierce advocate for those who struggle with aphasia.
Dr. Heller devoted his life to serving others as an educator and lawmaker. He made an enormous impact during his long tenure at the University of South Florida – St. Petersburg as a professor of Special Education, Dean, and CEO. He published and received grants related to providing education and services to children and adults with disabilities, and was a great advocate for people with aphasia. Additionally, Dr. Heller served as a member of the Florida House of Representatives from 2006 to 2010.
We are grateful for the guidance and dedication Dr. Heller brought to Voices of Hope for Aphasia and felt his kindness and generosity firsthand. He was, and remains, a shining example of selflessness and the goodness of which we are all capable. Our thoughts and warmest wishes are with his family and friends.
